Sarees, the traditional wear of Indian women, have always fascinated millions of people all over the world. And designers have accentuated the saree to fascinate the world even more.
Doing that is the RmKV design studio which has come up with innovative designs that have transformed the saree into alluring, attractive and dazzling wear that heighten the Indian woman’s sensuality. RmKV design studio is steered by Rm.K.Viswanathan, a textile technology engineer from IIT, Delhi.
1,25,000 colours in a single silk sari
It is an awesome range of colours. Each individual yarn has been painstakingly dyed at the modern dyeing plant combining traditional techniques and cutting edge dyeing technology. Handpicked master weavers have woven them together in a special check pattern to create 1,25,000 different colours on the body of the sari.
The saree which took four months to create has traditional motifs of horses and elephants woven with the purest of zari adorning the border and pallu portions.
Reversible silk saree
Not just the amazing range of colours, it is the first reversible silk saree. It has four different pallus, four different matching borders to make it a grand silk saree.
Longest silk saree
RmKV design studio is known for creative not just exquisite designs but also those which are totally different from the rest. It has created the world’s longest silk saree – 700 feet long masterpiece in Kancheepuram silk. The silk saree is longer than the length of Brigade Road and twice the height of Statue of Liberty. While the length gives it a world record, the intricate patterns of the Mahabalipuram Shore temple make it look magnificent. It took about 50,000 Jaquarand cards to depict the temple.
Rm.K.Vishwanath who hails from Tirunevelli drives the design studio in creating designs which stand out among the crowd and has a ‘wow’ factor.
Optical illusions
For the first time in the world, the studio has created the magic of light in a silk saree. The Varnajaalam sarees which create optical illusions present a stunning range of visually dazzling garment, created from newly patented technique in weaving.
World of dance on a saree
The Chinnanchiru Kiliyae sarees are another highlight of the studio, depicting 33 dance poses in silken grandeur. It is a world of dance on the saree, a silken grandeur, and a salute to different forms of dance.
Capturing 18 Timeless Thirukkurals
The design studio which draws heavily from the rich heritage has woven a silk saree which captures the essence of Thiruvalluvar’s 18 timeless Thirukkurals on the border. It is sheer poetry in silk.
Tribute to Raja Ravi Varma
On Raja Ravi Varma’s 150th anniversary, Vishwanath has paid a tribute to the great royal artist. Raja Ravi Varma’s paintings are depicted on the pallu and on the body the grandeur of the famous Padmanabhapuram Palace. The saree is a work of art with traditional Kanchi weaving excellence combined with French tapestry technique.
