Mumbai-The city of Seoul is now offering visitors a chance to take part in the reenactment of the Changing of the Royal Guard Ceremony, which takes place in front of Daehanmun, the main gate of Deoksugung Palace.
Anyone who wants to join the ceremony can make a reservation at the Experience Being a Royal Guard application page by selecting the desired participation date and submitting their contact information. Participants will receive about an hour of orientation prior to the event, change into traditional costumes, and participate in the Royal Guard changing ceremony at 2 pm.
Visitors without advance reservations may also register on site and participate in other experience programs such as beating a traditional drum to announce the start of the ceremony and trying on Korean traditional costumes. This experience is completely free of cost and there is no participation fee.
Deoksugung Palace has held a guard-changing ceremony since 1996 after thorough historical research by leading historians. The ceremony, which is held in front of the Daehanmun Gate of Deoksugung Palace, is a tradition similar to the Changing of the Guards at Buckingham Palace and offers a rare opportunity to experience royal culture. The royal gate is opened and closed at pre-determined times, and the gatekeepers in charge of guard duty and patrols hold a shift ceremony three times a day.
Time: 11:00, 14:00, 15:30 (for 30 minutes / no ceremony on Mondays)
