 A creative and contemporary retelling of one of the world’s oldest epic

Bangalore, 16th August 2012: Oxford Bookstore, Bangalore and The Leela Palace hosted the book launch of ‘The Mahabharata’, penned by Padma BhushanProfessor. Shiv .K. Kumar a passionate writer and playwrightThe book was released by Padma Bhushan Professor U.R. Ananthamurthy. The launch of the book was followed by an intriguing discussion which highlighted the author’s excellence in reviving the beauty of this magnificent epic.

‘The Mahabharata’ considered as the world’s greatest epic has been retold and imagined by the author in a unique way. It revives the exquisiteness of a splendid tale that was propelled by the force of human emotions – love and hate, lust and vengeance, jealousy and greed, loyalty and betrayal. The book has been beautifully crafted as it bring out each and every character’s existence and importance wonderfully and makes it set in the heart and mind of every reader. The writer has tried to explore the ideological implications of the epic and has tried to portray the human aspect involved in it. It also highlights the story of the people who fought those battles and lived those philosophies. The book has been ingeniously conceived by the writer keeping in mind the epic’s importance and value amongst the Indians.

The interactive session with the author and the chief guest brought to light the various concealed aspect of The Mahabharata, about which the audiences learnt with great interest.
