As part of its Leadership Talk Series program, SAP Labs India invited Karnataka Lokayukta Chief Santosh Hegde to address its employees at its campus in Whitefield today.

Addressing a packed house, Mr. Santosh Hegde in his intense 45 minutes talk spoke of the social degradation in the society and said that there are innumerable ways in which people are harassed by the Governance. There is unbelievable corruption and mal-administration because people in power have over the years allowed corruption to seep deep into the society, he said. Pointing out that “Greed over need is a disease”, Mr. Hegde said that the greed for money is so high that even some professionals have become corrupt. In the present scenario therefore, the system of Ombudsman is very important to check the malignant growth of corruption, he said.

He asked SAP Labs employees not to lose hope and banish negative thoughts of the impossibility of a change in the society. He appealed to them not to forget to cast their franchise. Mr. Hegde said that if he had the power he would make voting compulsory, give people the right to recall their elected representatives if they did not walk their talk and make sure that the election expenses were monitored by the election commission.

Appreciating the stand taken by Anna Hazare in stemming corruption in the country using the Lok Pal Bill, he encouraged the employees to stand and fight corruption at every level. To a question, would Lok Pal Bill completely weed out corruption, Mr. Hegde said that while it would not, the passing of the Bill would play an effective role in checking corruption and serve as a watchdog.
