9th Block market wears a new look
BN Vijaykumar’s Operation Cleanup yatra has had its impact. The 9th Block vegetable vendors now strictly abide by the agreed rules. On one side of the road, the vendors line up to do business on a token number basis, while the other side of the road is reserved for parking of vehicles. Those who park their vehicles in front of the vendors are penalized Rs 200. Vendors who shift to other side of the road are also penalized, and frequent violators are prohibited from doing business in future. Earlier, the streamlining of 9th Block vegetable market was supervised by former corporators Somashekar and CK Ramamurthy with the help of the police. Speaking to TWB about the operation, Sri Ramamurthy said, while they had brought about a semblance of discipline among the vendors, only the people can ensure that the rules are followed by the vendors in future. “The residents should not patronize those who violate the rules,” he said. The question is, will we?
