Subroto football Cup

The hugely popular Subroto Cup football tournament 2008 is on, and soccer fans can get a kick out of it till Sep 25, the day of the finals.

The pre-quarter final round commenced on Sep 9, Ambedkar Stadium. Air Marshal JN Burma AVSM VSM Air Officer-in-charge Administration and Vice Chairman Subroto Mukerjee Sports Education Society graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

Fly past by IAF helicopters, gymnastics Display by Motilal Nehru School of Sports, RAI, Sonepat, aero modelling by the NCC Cadets and display by the IAF Band were the highlights during the ceremony.
The team members of the Switzerland (U-14) Team, FC Kusnaught, were also introduced to the Chief Guest. They will be playing a few exhibition matches and would be conducting clinics for the other participating teams.

The opening match was played between St John Sec School, East Khasi Hill, Shillong, Meghalaya and Govt. Central Hr Sec School, College Veng, Aizawl, Mizoram. Mizoram School team defeated Meghalaya team by 3-0. H Lalmuankima (7), Joseph Ramdinmawaia (8) and H Lanmufela (20) scored a goal each in the 28th min, 46th min & 70th min respectively.
