New head of Gurdwara

Singhji, Tussi Great Ho!

If you are a resident of Jayanagar, Gursharan Singh is a familiar face. You have seen him greeting his customers always with a smile at his handloom store. Now, he will become more visible, as the newly elected president of Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Saba, Ulsoor.

Born Ferozepur in a devout Sikh family, Gursharan Singh was brilliant in studies, sports and social life as well, as a boy. He then came in contact with Jaswant Singh, the president of the Gurdwara, who made a deep influence on him.

His brilliant performance in education curriculum, sports and college union leadership brought him unprecedented acclaim from the teaching faculty and fellow students alike. During impressionable years of life in Panipat he, coming from religious family came in contact with S. Jaswant Sing who later became President of local Gurudwara and remains his role model even today.

Gursharan is deeply committed to spiritual values and takes keen interest in Sikh history, philosophy and divine practices. During 1984 Sikh holocaust, his family suffered huge business losses in Panipat and decided to switchover to direct marketing at all-India level.

He is married to Sardarni Harbakshish Kaur daughter of late S. Surjit Singh which has made his bonds to Sikhism even stronger.

In 1990 he shifted base to Tumkur and four years later, settled down in Bangalore, re-establishing his business with state of the art marketing, management and accounting practices resulting in multifold growth.

The Gurudwara at Ulsoor is a very holy and revered place for Sikhs settled in Bangalore. The trustees run a school where students are admitted irrespective of caste, creed or religion, and free food provided to children who are economically poor. They also regularly conduct blood donation camps and free health checkup camps.

Thanking his community people for choosing him as president, Gursharan spoke to TWB about some of his pet projects he had in mind such as:

* Construction of professional college and community hall at BTM Layout site, for which the construction plan is already ready and approved by BDA

* Computerisation of accounts of Gurudwara will be computerized and amendment of the bye-laws.
