Rajasthan Youth Association (RYA) held its 34th annual Book Bank Scholarship distribution and an open heart surgery camp for the poor and needy people on August 9, in association with various departments of the state government and Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology, at Jnana Jyothi Auditorium.

Transport Minister, R Ashok, Health and Family Welfare Minister R Sriramulu, Rural Development, Panchayat Raj Minister Shobha Karandlaje, Housing & Muzarai Minister Krishnaiah Shetty, Higher Education Minister Aravinda Limbavali, inaugurated. Director for Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology Padmashri Dr. C N Manjunath, Treasurer for Karnataka State BJP Lahar Singh Siroya, Subhachand Bafna of Badalchand Chordia Trust of Chennai, Shantilal Gadia of Mayur Jewellers, President G Hemraj (Mannu), Trust Chairman B Shantilal Kankaria , Book Bank Chairman Kamal Mehta, and Secretary Suresh Bagrecha graced the event.
Rajasthan Youth Association (RYA) regularly conducts social and charitable activities with the aim of ameliorating the hardships of financially weaker sections of the society irrespective of caste, creed, color and religion.

Over the past 34 years they have donated books to poor students, organized health camps, distributed food items and materials to the needy people of the society.

Book Bank
RYA plans to distribute 3,000 sets of books and grant 200 scholarships to deserving and needy students this year.

“The goals of the Book bank projects are aiding the economically weak to attain education through books,  improve the quality of the education,  sensitize the community to get over the mental block regarding education, especially of girl children,” Hemraj President, RYA.


The book bank project was started in 1975 by philanthropist, late Padmasri Mohanmalji Chordia when he distributed 101 sets of text books to college students belonging to the economically weaker sections of the society.

So far more than 1 lakh students have been benefited by this project
. Expanding to rural areas, RYA realized the importance of this project in rural areas and started Book Bank project in Kanakapura, Doddaballapur, K.G.F, Kadur and Chikkamagalur.

Scholarships

For scholarship project, student will be selected from the economically weaker section on the basis of merit. Once selected, RYA remits the entire tuition fee along with the other necessary fees. Former Minister Sri P.G.R. Sindhia requested RYA to extend this noble project to Kanakapura

Police constable’s children

A RYA member said children of police constables are also considered for the project. Since 2007 these children are getting books under this project. A full set of textbooks along with scholarship will be provided to 100 deserving students from the police constable community; sponsored by Babulalji Ranka.

Open heart surgery and cancer treatment
In 2004, Shatilalji Kankaria, trust chairman, started the unique idea of providing open heart surgery to heart patients. With the help of few trusts driven mainly by Badalchand Choradia Trust, Chennai, about 1,000 heart surgeries have been conducted all over the country in association with Narayana Hrudalaya and Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology. Taking inspiration from this RYA is holding a mega project of 400 open heart surgeries for needy people in the state in association with the state government and Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology. Ailments covered the project include fbreast cancer treatment, voice box surgery, initial treatment for prevention and detection of cancer. The treatment will be given free of cost at Kidwai Hospital.  The cancer treatment is sponsored by Sri Gewarchandji Surana of Microlabs.

Other activities

RYA has also donated rooms in Nimhans called the RYA Block, for patient’s relatives, and also in Kidwai hospital, in addition to extending midday meals on designated days.
