A visual treat from visually impaired troupe

A group of visually impaired youth from Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled stole the hearts of a large audience with their heart-warming performance of song and dance at a cultural event held in Yavanika on July 19, 2008.

Sri R.L. Patil, Joint Director, and Sri Amar Kumar Pandey, IPS, Commissioner for the Youth Services and Sports presided.

After an invocation by Bhanumati, the program was anchored by Nagesh, who also rendered foot-tapping numbers in Hindi and Kannada. Fareed, also visually impaired, made the audience sway to the golden melody oldies. The dance troupe, led by Roopa, Suma and Shekhar Naik, gave stunning performances in both Bharat Natyam and contemporary dance.  Clearly, the star of the day was Shiv Kumar, who kept the audience spell bound with his mimicry skills.

Mr. G.K. Mahantesh, Managing Trustee, Mr. P.K.M. Swamy, National Director, Advocacy, Ms Vasanthi, the Trustee and the Facilitator, and staff and students from Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled besides were present. Sri Pandey appreciated Samarthanam’s role in giving the differently-abled children a platform to hone and showcase their talents, and said the Department would consider a long term partnership with Samarthanam by hosting its cultural shows and sports events under the aegis of the Department of Youth Services and Sports.
