Theatrescience India
What would happen if someone discovered a scientific basis for the traditional belief in the sacredness of the river Ganges ? How does being diagnosed as HIV+ change the power and gender struggles within an Indian marriage? Are there echoes of the infamous Tuskegee syphilis trial in modern drug trials in Africa ?
Questions like these will be explored in the Theatrescience India in London festival, 14-18 July. This interdisciplinary and intercultural week of events brings together theatre companies, scientists and playwrights from across India and the UK , to explore the ethics, emotions and politics of new developments in biomedicine.
Theatrescience is a rolling laboratory of new plays, workshops, performances, festivals, research and
exchanges, which works to break down the barriers between two allegedly divided disciplines - theatre
and science - to the enduring benefit of both. An international festival using theatre to explore the ethics,
emotions, and politics of new issues in biomedical science. All events are free to attend, but places must be reserved in advance by emailing mail@theatrescience.com or phoning 07530 366262.
