This car doesn't run on petrol!
Never underestimate a school dropout, for Bill Gates was one. Following in his footsteps, though not in IT, is Bangalore’s very own Syed Sajjad Ahmed who has developed an electro-solar car - a battery operated solar powered car for city mobility, which can run for 60 km with solar support.
According Sajjad, the vehicle has several things going in its favour – it is eco-friendly, zero-pollutant, low cost, low maintenance, easy to drive, emits no sound, and most important, doesn’t need petrol or oil! Sajjad says the vehicle has been tested and certified roadworthy, and can be used for commuting in cities, towns as well as rural areas. It can also be used in amusement parks, go-carting, university campuses, hospitals, inside large factories and hotels, joy rides, marketing and government parcel services.
The vehicle runs at a speed of 30-40 km per hour, and runs nearly 50 km with the help of solar support. There is option for further re-charge by domestic electric charge at an expense of Rs 30 paise per km. The vehicle can accommodate 2 adults and 2 minors, and is ideal for limited use.
The model of the vehicle is developed only midway up to 50%, and has cost Rs one lakh, according to its inventor. With corporate backing and sponsorships, it would be possible to develop more designs and models, he said. Incidentally, Sajjad has also developed two varieties of three-wheelers suitable for physically handicapped, women and the aged. These vehicles also run on solar power, and can be used within a radius of 20 km.

“I appeal to the government and corporates for an opportunity to give a demonstration,” says Sajjad.
