Savarkar Remembered

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Sri L.K. Advani, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Sri Jaswant Singh and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Sri V. Narayanasamy, led the nation in paying floral tributes to Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar on his 125th Birth Anniversary in the Central Hall of Parliament House on Thursday.

Among other dignitaries who paid tributes to the departed soul were Smt. Sushma Swaraj, Shri S.S. Ahluwalia, Shri V.K. Malhotra, Shri Santosh Kumar Gangawar, Smt. Maya Singh, Shri Syed Shahnawaz Hussain, Members of Parliament and many former Members of Parliament.

Lok Sabha Secretary-General, Shri P.D.T. Achary and Rajya Sabha Secretary-General, Shri V.K. Agnihotri, also paid floral tributes.

A booklet containing the profile of Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, brought out by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, both in Hindi and English, was presented to the dignitaries on the occasion.

The portrait of Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar was unveiled in the Central Hall of Parliament House by the then President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on 26 February 2003, in recognition of his many-splendoured services to the nation.
