Going forward the ethical way

The year 2007 can be looked upon with great expectation. India's strength as one of the world's fastest growing economy is bound to throw up opportunities. India's flourishing middle class will see more disposable incomes than ever before. Comfort living will be the order of the day, and the accent will be on the quality of life we lead. The nation's young work force will break cultural barriers like never before; already we hear a lot about reverse brain drain. Technology will guide human thinking and take us to a new high.

The vital essence of Indian familyhood, will be pushed back stage. Value culture may be a thing of the past. Are we ready to embrace economic prosperity, at a price? With bulging bank balances that took the Western world and Chinese success story beyond moderate levels of humanism and then making a valiant attempt to reverse to value cultures is the scene in front of us. Is there any sense in following their footsteps?

Success stories like the Indian one need to be understood against these experiences. Corporate India will have to lead the way like they have done so in the global arena. Ethics cannot have two faces. While taking on competition and reaping the harvests distribution of wealth and saving for development should take centre stage. It is not new to the ancient Indian value system. There is a meaning for tomorrow while the today will represent success and fulfillment. The guiding factor lies within and it only gives a serious thought to rediscover ourselves.

Business ethics revolve around the individuals thinking and this should be given prominence. When this happens the Indian mind will look more humane. Therefore it is easy to understand and enjoy prosperity. A robust economic growth does not guarantee happiness, but practicing from the mind will ensure joy that will be sustainable in nature. Ethics will be a debated subject while the New Year brings in a problem of plenty.
