Dhoni's young turks have come of age
For the triumphant Indian cricketers, it is now a moment for Cheque De India, and indeed, who would grudge them that? An overseas win against the world's best team - under trying circumstances and with a newly blooded young team of hopefuls - is not something that happens too often in Indian sports. For the moment, Mahendra Singh Dhoni's tyros deserve their spot under the sun and should make the most of it.
However, after all the dust settles down, and when it is time to resume battle in the 22-yard kurukshetra, our warriors should remember that past victories count for little the day after. Let not this triumphalism give way to an easy going approach. Even the great Sachin Tendulkar cannot let his guard down as we have seen. When the world's best batsman is required to keep his powder dry match after match, despite all his colossal experience, one can well understand that victory and defeat, celebration and despair, joy and sadness, are just one match away.
The young rookies in the team would do well to keep their feet on the ground and not get carried away by the glitz, glam and cash that follows every series win. This is especially true for the young crop of fast bowlers that have tasted rare success and acclaim from this part of the sub-continent.
