Federation of JP Nagar Residents
You can be Proud of it
If there’s a poll about which residents association in the city is the most active, the Federation of JP Nagar 7th and 8th Phase Residents Welfare Association could easily be a front-ranker in the poll. Ever since its inception in 2001, the Federation has done yeoman service battling with the civic authorities for better roads, electricity, water, drainage, etc. Today, it comprises of representatives of 35 layouts, covering over one lakh citizens.
The Federation regularly organises free health checkup camps, spiritual programs, cricket coaching camps and sports events for residents, and has several achievements to its credit.
In 2003, it succeeded in converting the status of the localities coming under it, from Kothnur Gram Panchayat limits to City Muncipal Council, Bommanahalli.
Sri. K. S. Ramachandra, a civic activist went on a hunger strike on Gandhi Jayanti to draw the attention of Government authorities to poor infrastructure facilities in the locality. More than 5,000 people took part in a protest rally taken out by the Federation.
It was principally due to its efforts that the 9-km long Puttenahalli Main Road work was taken up at a cost of Rs 14.5 crore by the BDA, under the directions of then CM HD Kumaraswamy. To speed up the work by BDA, the Federation office bearers succeeded in clearing many hurdles and convincing shop keepers/landlords for giving up sufficient space for widening the road. The Federation also managed to convince the Brigade and Puravankara Group to develop three roads in the locality.
As part of its social responsibility, the Federation has also conducted free heart and kidney checkup camps in association with Manipal Hospital. The Capitol Educational Institution in association with the Federation’s sports wing developed a playground in RBI layout playground. The sports wing has also constructed three concrete cricket pitches for the benefit of the youths.
