For the first time in Karnataka
Vishwa Bharati inspires a revolution
'Oh, Vishwa Bharati? I know them, they teach very well," says Sukanya, I PUC student, of Pattanayakanahalli. "So you have been to their Institute?" you query and she replies with a smile, "No, no. I know their teachers through the Nemmadi centre at Tumkur."
Thousands of PUC students in far flung villages are getting a taste of Vishwa Bharati Institute's (VBI) high quality teaching, without so much as stirring from their places. VBI, in association with Comat Technologies (P) Ltd is creating a revolution in the hinterlands by providing professional and personalized CET coaching to the rural students, through Nemmadi tele-centres and district offices equipped with VSAT connectivity. "For the first time in Karnataka, rural students enjoy the advantage of having specialized coaching in CET," says Dhananjay Prabhu, Director, VBI, "Nothing can be more pleasing than extending such a crucial service to youngsters who have always felt a need for it."
Now, rural students like Sukanya can compete with their urban counterparts on a level playing ground in CET 2008.
Experienced faculty from Vishwa Bharati visit Comat's studio in Bangalore and the training programme is beamed live through satellite using broadband connectivity across Nemmadi centres and district offices. Students also receive latest study materials for Physics, Chemistry and Maths. The course comprises 120 hours of online interactive training, practice tests and assignments.
VBI's trainers reach a large cross-section of rural students at over 750 Nemmadi centres operating in 25 districts, 177 taluks and 759 hoblis across Karnataka. The training sessions for CET candidates are rolled out in a virtual classroom setup, with 2-way interaction between the trainer and the student. The system works on the "one-to-many" principle where a trainer sitting in a studio anywhere in the country can train a large number of students, says a release from Comat.

For school age children, living in a rural community comes at a price because, these days, learning without a personal computer and Internet access is akin to learning without paper, pens and books.
But fortunately, thanks to Comat and VBI, rural communities in Karnataka are now on the cusp of a new trend that holds the potential to transform their lives. This joint initiative of Comat Technologies and Vishwa Bharati can truly lead to empowering the masses in ways which we cannot fathom…. |
