Nele Premanjali Trust

Giving a facelift to the faceless

We sanctimoniously refer to them as children of a lesser god, the little ones who are as chirpy and cheerful as any their age. Even when, they have no reason to smile. This week, a bunch of them showed they were no less talented than their more fortunate folks, at Makkala Mantapa 2008, an inter-school competition being organised by Nele Premanjali of Hindu Pratishthana, a registered charity organization, at VET PU College grounds. Poor children from 35 schools took part in 20 colourful competitions that ranged from potato race, book balancing race, lemon and spoon, ball and bucket, sack race, skipping, memory game, volleyball and many more. A variety of cultural programmes like group dance, debate, quiz, painting and story telling are also being held.

The festival that will conclude with a fitting finale on Sunday, Jan 20, was earlier inaugurated by Ferman Basha, Paralympics Athletic, Mrs Jayanthi, Principal, VET PU College. Timber merchant C. Venkatesh, K. Balakrishna Hegde, Chairman, Premanjali and President of COPA, Sridhar Sagar, Director, Hindu Seva Pratishthana, will preside over the prize distribution ceremony.

Premaanjali is a registered charitable trust founded in the year 1988 by a group of like minded individuals to serve the cause of the homeless and destitute children. The trust runs a center in JP Nagar which provides shelter, food, clothing and education to twenty five girl children. There are also eight centres manned under the aegis of Nele, a HSP Project, which provides shelter to 210 children. The centres are at Timber Yard Layout, Mysore Road, Ullal Main Road, Vinayaka Extension, HRBR Layout, JP Nagar, Gottigere, Mamulpet, Mysore and Shimoga.

Nele also takes care of 130 school dropouts by providing them with re-schooling, medical and other expenses. Supporting the children of stone quarry workers at a day care centre, computer education to the blind, midday meals to 500 students of Ranganatha School in Kalkunte village, form the core of its other social activities.

Those who wish to support Premanjali may send in their contributions to Hindu Seva Pratishthana at # N-3, 24th Main, 1st Phase, JP Nagar, Bangalore-78, Ph 9845003692, 9449957522, email: home@premaanjali.org (IT exemption for donations available under Sec 80G).
