Residents protest shifting of Rajiv Gandhi Hospital
Jayanagar residents under the banner of the Federation of Jayanagar Residents Association staged a protest on Wednesday, Jan 9, over the shifting of the Rajiv Gandhi Hospital in 4th T Block to Ramanagar. They were demanding for a super speciality hospital to be set up in its place, instead of a Government College, as planned by the government. Fourteen residents associations took part in the protest.
“The Rajiv Gandhi Hospital was catering mostly to the slum dwellers and lower middle classes. Now they are deprived of it and there is a pressing need for providing low cost medical care to such impoverished sections of society. That’s why the government should consider our demand for setting up a super speciality hospital there,” explained B.N. Vijayakumar, Bangalore City BJP president. Others who took part in the protest included former Corporators, Nagaraj, Somashekar, Ramamurthy, K.V. Bhaskarmurthy, President, N. Keshava Kumar, Secretary, Lakshmikanth, Harish Aradhya, Prakash Mandoth, Ramarao, Bhaskar, Treasurer, Federation of Jayanagar Residents Association.
