Knowing a foreign language gets you instant mileage, and is a value addition, especially for MNC jobs. Several multinational companies prefer people who know at least one foreign language because they can handle onsite assignments better in their parent companies.

The Bangalore University’s Department of Foreign Languages currently offers courses in French, German, Japanese, Italian, Spanish, Korean languages, while two more, Chinese and Portugese will be introduced in the next academic year.

Demand for the courses has almost doubled, according to University sources, while even weekend batches are full, and enquiries are pouring in for admissions for the coming year.
Apart from the Bangalore University, there are several institutes offering foreign language basic level, intermediate and advanced level courses like the Alliance Francaise de Bangalore (French) and the Goethe Institute (German).
