A wards sizzle at intnl competition

When it comes to Abacus-based technique of learning maths, the benchmark is Ideal Play Abacus (IPA). Because, quite simply, when you win prizes in an international competition, it is you who set the standards. At the international Abacus and Mental Arithmetic competition held in Malaysia on December 2, 2007, all the 12 IPA students from Karnataka won prizes in various categories.

As many as 1200 students from six countries namely Malaysia, China, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and India took part in the competition. About 90 students from IPA took part in this competition out of which 60 students won prizes in various categories. IPA received the Best Group Performance award based on the overall performance of the students. Abhishek Shet from Sadashivgad, Karwar was awarded world champion for Oral mental sums category.

Ideal Play Abacus India Pvt Ltd was founded by women entrepreneurs, who have, after an extensive study, evolved a mental arithmetic programme using ABACUS to suit Indian children.

The names of the 12 prize winning students are:
Anirudh Gangavaram, Jayanagar (I prize); Pranav Bharadwaj, Jayanagar (II Prize), Anoop Gharde, AR Prathap, (BTM Centre) (III prize); Pranav Chinmay, Navkis (II prize); Gowri, Shimoga (I prize); Pratham Nadig, Shimoga (II prize); Gopalakrishna Pawar, Karwar (I prize); Apoorva Sindhur, Savanur (I prize); Abhishek D Shet, Karwar (I prize); Gayathri, Vyalikaval (III prize); Archith, Yelahanka (Merit prize).
