Bar, Bar, Dekho.. Residents Protest
Jayanagar 4th Block Residents Welfare Association is up in arms against the bar and
restaurant proposed to be set up by the Jayanagar Cultural and Civic Association in their area. Though the JCCA is barred from opening or starting any gambling or liquor consumption outlets or activities , both by the Registrar of the Societies and the BDA and also by its very own by-laws, the residents have authentic information that the JCCA has applied for a Bar and Restaurant License to the Commissioner, Excise Department, Government of Karnataka, Bangalore and even remitted Rs.2,50,000/- being the bar licence fee!
The residents have decided to represent to the sanctioning authorities their objection to Bar & Restaurant in the JCCA, with a request to refrain from sanctioning licence and also to petition the Governor of Karnataka and other concerned authorities against the move.
The area is a conglomerate of educational and religious institutions. The R.V. Education Trust, for example, has the following educational institutions adjacent to the JCCA ie., R.V. Institution of Pharmacy, R.V. Institution of Physiotherapy and R.V. Institution of Rehabilitation. As per the Rules and Regulation of the Excise Department to issue a Bar and Licence the minimum distance for issue of a Bar Licence is 300 feet In this case, the distance is only 10 feet from the JCCA. The Jain Temple is only 100ft. away. The residents feel that it is a blatant violation of rules and defilement of the entire neighourhood.
