Teachers are bored!

Who’s more bored? Teacher Margaret or Student Mahesh? It’s Miss Maggie, the teacher! Why? Because, they are over-worked, underpaid, are under-trained, and have lots more grouses than the students. According to a survey conducted by e2e business solutions, a city-based people management and training institute, an overwhelming 83% of teachers are tired and demotivated enough to say quits to the teaching profession! And interestingly, these teachers are not from government or low-profile schools, but from the top-rated schools in Bangalore!

Here’s a gist of the survey findings:

• 83% of teachers want to quit teaching, and the younger lot want to get into IT/ITeS as they find it more lucrative.
• 59% say lack of adequate training has impaired their performance.
• 29% want to pursue further research.
• 91% of the teachers feel there is a wide gap between parents and students.
• 12.5% say they are not a mediator between parents and students.
• 90% feel training is badly needed for making education and teaching more effective.

The survey ‘How can training influence the teaching profession and help in balancing the paradigm shift in expectations’ covered over 9,000 students from 60 schools and 253 select teachers in prominent schools.
P.S: Now you know why Miss Maggie has a bored look when she enters the class…!!
