Shop for Diwali - and be charitable!

Have a cracker of a Diwali, and at the same time, add some sunshine to the dark lives of the disabled. All you need to do is plan your Diwali shopping through Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled.

According to the Trustees, if 1,000 philanthropic Bangaloreans do their Diwali shopping through them, it will help them to take care of the educational expenses of 500 students for one month.

Here's what you need to do: Contact Samarthanam Trust over phone or email and their representatives will get in touch with you. Donate Rs 3,000 and get blessings along with Rs. 3250, courtesy Shoppers'Stop, Standard Fireworks Crackers & Adyar Ananda Bhavan.

Shop at your convenience at 'Shoppers' Stop' and buy apparels/products worth Rs 1600. Standard Fireworks Crackers worth Rs.700 will be given to you as a gift pack along with the liberty to select crackers of your choice and place order by Phone / E - mail. You can also take home Diwali sweets worth Rs 500/- from Adyar Anand Bhavan.

You will get a Tax Exemption receipt for Rs.3000 through which you can avail 50% tax benefit of Rs.450 (if your taxable income is Rs. 2.5 Lakhs and above, else it is Rs. 300)

Scheme closes on Nov 5. All donations to the Samarthanam Trust are exempt from IT under Sec 80G.
Samarthanam Trust was started by three young graduates who are visually impaired. Today the trust is providing education, food and shelter to 200 visually impaired, physically challenged and economically weaker section of the society. 453 children are also provided with integrated education program by 22 trained teachers/dedicated volunteers. The trust takes care of the school fees of all these students. It is also providing mid-day meals to 53000 school children spread across 200 schools which is partially supported by the Government, under a scheme called Vidya Prasad.
