Fans of Vishnuvardhan may feel let down, or do they? Earlier this week, the veteran superstar of Kannada cinema scotched rumours of joining politics, following his role as a farmer in his latest film, Mataad Mataad Mallige. In this film directed by the award winning Nagathihalli Chandrashekar, Vishnu champions the cause of farmers against the threat of globalisation.
After the release of the film, he had even declared his intentions to be a part of the farmers’ movement. This had fueled speculation that the actor had political aspirations and would follow in the footsteps of his colleague and friend, Ambareesh, a Congress MP and a former Central Minister. However, while shooting for Jnanajyothi Sri Siddaganga, a movie on the centenarian Siddaganga seer, Sri Shivakumar Swamiji, he clarified that politics was not for him “as it would only bring more problems”.
He also stated that he was lending his name to the ryots movement not with any personal motive, but to change the condition of the farmers for the better.
