Onam is one of the biggest festivals in Kerala. Onam festival falls during the Malayali month of Chingam (Aug - Sep) and marks the homecoming of legendary King Mahabali. The carnival of Onam lasts for ten days and brings out the best of Kerala culture and tradition. Intricately decorated Pookalam, ambrosial Onasadya, breathtaking Snake Boat Race and exotic Kaikottikali dance are some of the most remarkable features of Onam - the harvest festival in Kerala. ‘Onasadhya’ is the grand feast served during the celebration of Onam in Kerala. It is served in Banana leafs.
This year Onam falls on Aug 27 and celebrations are set to take off in a grand way at the Kairali Restaurant. The Onam Sadhya and Palada Payasam will be served at all their four outlets situated at Maruthi Nagar, Madiwala (near Christ College), Hosur Road (near Rukum Travel) and at Koramangala. Apart from these places this time they have arranged a additional place at St. Ann’s Frieri Church near Madiwala checkpost. This special arrangement was made to avoid any disappointment as happened last year, said Mr Kurian. There is ample parking space in the church campus. Onam is not only celebrated by the Hindu Keralites but also by Malayalis of other religions, said Joji.
