This "BSNL Agent" is a wrong number!

A gang of "BSNL agents" are on the prowl in the city cheating the gullible of their money. The modus operandi is as follows: A person claiming to be a BSNL agent comes calling, enticing you with a very attractive offer of a landline connection with broadband, bundled with a host of other features such as voice mail, answering service, and SMS, for only Rs 999/-. You get tempted, and pay up the amount. He then assures you the connection will be activated within 24 hours, gives you a BSNL helpline number, and vanishes with your money! When the connection is not activated, you call up the helpline number, and find no one at the other end. Soon, you realize that it's a wrong number…

A resident in JP Nagar 6th Phase is one of the victims of this gang. When TWB contacted BSNL officials, the PRO clarified that they are not responsible for such unauthorized agents and confirmed that several people had called in with similar complaints from all over the city.

In another instance, a representative claiming to be from a company called Infotex, duped a resident of JP Nagar, promising to replace an old handset with a brand new, and vanished with the money.

Beware of this "wrong number", if someone comes calling, keep the "caller" on hold and notify the police immediately.
