Jayanagar as the next Shopping Destination. This vision, of the trading community of South-East Asia’s largest extension, got a big fillip at a seminar appropriately titled ‘Jayanagar Forward’ organised earlier this week by the Jayanagar Traders Association (JTA). Sri Prakash Mandoth, founder-president of JTA, told an impressive gathering of traders that an action plan should be evolved to move forward with modern trends and develop infrastructure in Jayanagar matching its potential and demand, so as to benefit both traders and consumers. A number of issues of mutual concern such as impact of FDI on retail trade, bank policies on credit cards, competition from shopping malls, adequate illumination of the main shopping streets, creating a website, publishing shopping guide and scarcity of parking space were discussed at the seminar. The parti cipants urged the BBMP to build a parking complex imm ediately for the benefit of the shoppers and residents.
Chief guest Sri B.S. Arun Kumar, former President of FKCCI in his address said that the Association members should meet very often and discuss among themselves issues relating to retail trade. He urged them to also chalk out future programmes benefiting members and customers, for the betterment of Business, as Jayanagar is the biggest and most popular shopping center in Bangalore. Regular interactive meetings between traders and civic agencies should be organised to resolve local grievances and improve infrastructure, he said, while complimenting JTA for its initiative in organising the seminar. Sri M.V. Gopal Krishna proposed the Vote of Thanks.
Sri Murali K. Jaswani, Treasurer, and other office bearers took part in the interaction. DCB Bank (the sponsor) officials Sri Vishwanath, Centre Head, B. Prasad, Jayanagar Branch Manager were present.
