Why 9th Block residents are "silent".

For long, JS Complex, 4th Block was known as an Eve-teasers’ paradise, but now the honour (sic) has shifted to 9th Block, near South End Road A to E Cross, near SLV Restaurant.

Not just eve-teasers, it has become the preferred adda for realtors and local ruffians who park their four wheelers and two wheelers haphazardly in unauthorized places, causing a lot of nuisance and inconvenience to the area residents.

The residents may be inconvenienced but they told TWB they are terrified to stand up to these ruffians who are known to have powerful backing of local leaders.

That the BBMP officials have turned a blind eye to the violation of rules by certain commercial establishments has only stoked their fears further. For instance, a restaurant has constructed a platform for people to sit and has gone scot-free whereas the authorities are notoriously stern when a resident tries to safeguard his house compound (to prevent parking of vehicles in front of his house) and promptly slap a notice on the resident. “Why the officials are partial is obvious,” said a resident who did not wish to be named. “They are paid mamool by the violators and so we are being victimized.”

To make matters worse, a temple nearby is planning to construct an arch which, the locals say, is going to block the traffic flow.

A long time resident said the increasing commercialization of the area has even driven some people to shift to the outskirts of the city.

Things are only getting to get worse. A Multiplex is coming up near Woody’s, and you can well imagine the chaos that will take over 9th Block.
