Remembering Kadidal Manjappa

Former Chief Minister Kadidal Manjappa’s centenary celebrations at Jnana Jothi auditorium, near Central College grounds earlier this week was an occasion for fond memories, and some candid reflections, on the part of Chief Minister HK Kumaraswamy. The Chief Mi nister conf essed that “unlike the great Kadilal Ma njappa who was known for his honesty, the present day system and present day politicians cannot work with honesty of purpose”. Several leaders including Deputy Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, and Kannada activists paid rich tributes to the former Chief Minister.

Late Sri Kadidal Manjappa, was a practicing Gandhian and one of the few honest politicians in our country. A law graduate, he continued his legal practice after resigning from the CM’s post! For him work was worship and he believed that one had to earn his living. He was very close to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and used to frequently share his thoughts with Panditji.
