A boon for workers in real estate
LabourNet is a non-profit initiative that aims to improve the livelihoods of informal construction workers in India. According to a press release from LabourNet, despite its significant contribution to the national economy, construction is one of the most informal and hazardous industries in the country. Due to the lack of structure, avenues for skills training, occupational safety measures, etc., workers suffer from low wages, irregular employment, unsafe working conditions and lack of training opportunities. Thus, LabourNet attempts to improve working conditions by connecting workers to jobs and developing better workplace systems.
Through a systemic approach, LabourNet endeavors to create an environment that enables greater job market security, regulation of standards, skills enhancement, employment stability and income security for construction workers. Additionally, it promotes occupational health and safety, provides access to basic social protection measures and develops training opportunities for workers.
LabourNet is a facilitating body that routes jobs to workers by servicing clients with labour requests, establishes better systems at worksites to improve working conditions and the execution of projects, develops systems of skill development for workers and provides access to social security schemes for workers and their families
How it works
LabourNet has a growing database of registered construction workers of all trades across Bangalore who are available to do civil construction works and repair and maintenance jobs. They connect construction workers to clients, on a membership basis, through a centralized coordination/call centre.
To make a request for construction workers, clients can call LabourNet between 8 am-8 pm, Monday – Saturday. LabourNet will then search the database to find available workers to match the client’s request.
Aside from this information exchange, LabourNet provides training opportunities for workers, facilitates access to health and accidental insurance
