High percentage, high cut offs

It is real that when there is joy there is also sorrow. The recent SSLC examination results in Karnataka proved to be a happy affair for  over seventy three per cent of students who appeared for the test. The joy for many of them has proved to be short lived since their entry into colleges is getting tougher. Simple reason, many of them will not be able to choose their college nor their subjects of their choice. When the forms for college admission were issued many of the students applied to colleges of their choice on the basis of cut offs of last year. Now that colleges have received applications from students, there is revision of cut offs with higher percentage of marks being the order of the day. This has caught many students off guard . Some of them have applied to colleges where they chanced an admission on last year cut offs. Now they find that they will not get a seat in the college. Parents and children are running from pillar to post ,not having an idea of what to do .In the given scenario it is difficult for the colleges to accommodate all. Now colleges will have to relax admission dates and give students time to apply where their percentage offers a chance for admission.

This could mean some loss of time, but it would save students the embarrassment of seeking admission paying penalty for late admissions. This is a rare situation and merits understanding by college managements/ With the modified SSLC scheme one must keep in mind that students will have to aim for the sky if they have to look ahead for collage.
