BMTC's new pass-vending kiosk

If you commute to office by BMTC bus, you must be familiar with how the daily passes are misused by people looking for easy money. The daily passes issued by bus conductors do not have provision for showing the photograph of the pass holder and are easily transferable. That's why you find people, usually children and youngsters, offering to "sell" their daily passes at a discount. But this might be a thing of the past, if the BMTC's new initiative finds wide acceptance among the commuters.

The BMTC has installed a new pass vending machine at the Kempegowda Bus Station which issues daily passes in a jiffy against payment of the required amount in currency notes. The pass comes with your foto embossed on it, and it has to be used within one hour of its issue. The kiosk also issues tickets from point to point.

According to BMTC officials, the first of its kind machine in India has been installed on a trial basis for route KBS-Vijayanagar route. Depending on its success and acceptability, it will be extended to other major routes, the official said.

The kiosk has been developed by Subash Projects and Marketing Ltd at a cost of Rs 5 lakh.
