Aryabhata Award for Gynaecologist

For infertile couples, motherhood is a passion fruit – forever forbidden, and an experience alien. Or so they think. It’s time to give it a burial and rethink. JP Nagar-based Advanced Fertility Centre offers several procedures to combat infertility, backed by a renowned team of experts in the field.

Managing and Clinical Director of the Centre, Dr Nirmala was recently presented the prestigious Aryabhata Award for her distinguished work in the field of infertility and assisted reproductive techniques. Earlier to this, she was also awarded the Karunada Siri Award by the Suvarna Karnataka Dalitha Kannada Sangha.

A reputed gynaecologist and an acknowledged expert in the management and treatment of infertile couples, Dr Nirmala has given many presentations on infertility at national and international level conferences. She has also taken part in several live interaction programmes on infertility telecast in Kannada by Udaya TV, Doordarshan, Ushe TV, C-Bangalore and E-TV. She believes in individualizing patient protocols and treatment modules depending on varied clinical parameters to obtain best results.

Her colleague, Dr Varsha Samson Roy has pioneered the procedure of In-Vitro Maturation in India. She has performed more than 300 cases of IVF-ICSI.

Infertility is not a disease that if left untreated will fulminate to a point of no return. The centre offers a total one-stop solution in fertility with advanced facilities, state-of-art technology, qualified and experienced consultants, and all related services at an affordable cost.

The procedures available for combating infertility are: intrauterine insemination (IUI), invitro fertilization (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), ICSI with ejaculated and surgically retrieved sperm from epididymus or testis, egg donation, surrogacy, assisted hatching and cryo-preservation of sperms/embryos.

Many people wrongly believe that the female of the partner is generally to be blamed for infertility. However, as the two experts pointed out, fertility impairment is seen in both male and female partners to an equal degree in most cases (about 35% each), while unexplained infertility and combination of problems account for the remaining 30%.
