Believe & Achieve
By Ajit Kaikini
When Queen Victoria said, "Wow, though blind, deaf and dumb, you have been able to achieve a lot, Helen," Helen Keller replied, "The single reason behind what I am today is the belief in myself, which was developed in me by my teacher Annie Sullivan. If it wasn't for the dedication and devotion of my teacher Annie, the name Helen Keller would have remained unknown."
When Annie Sullivan was questioned the same, she had another story to tell. "I was born with slight blindness and was also hopelessly well, insane. My caretakers admitted me in a mental institution in Boston as I attacked people. I was locked in the basement where only an elderly nurse had the guts to come. She gave me unconditional love and encouraged me. She helped me to believe in myself though I cared too hoots for her. Slowly but steadily, when I became less aggressive, I experienced the magic of Self-Belief. I had grown up seeing the importance of service with devotion. After I was discharged, I searched for a similar service-oriented work, and Helen came my way. I first started working on her belief in self. I had to first discipline her, I played with her as a friend, I pushed her out of her comfort zones, and as I gave her unconditional love the way my nurse gave me, I could see a new Helen emerge."
At Buoyancee too, when we surround our participants with hope and encouragement, with corrections presented positively and humorously, they start feeling good about themselves. This magic unfailingly works a transformation. So simple yet difficult for many. One just has to listen and speak with their eyes. Make the participants feel great and they start behaving just that. Once they believe in themselves, their thinking, words and actions become positive, bringing about a big difference in their life!
