Why are there no Bus Shelters?

The outer ring road now boasts of the most densely active bus routes in Bangalore. Thousands of commuters use the ring road service to travel to their work spots. The ring road also provides connectivity to main areas of Bangalore without having to cross the city. In short it has become a life line road to Bangaloreans.

Over time the government has also recognized this fact that the ring road service is generating good revenue for the BMTC. It has increased the services and brought more connectivity to far flunged areas.

The disturbing aspect of government's apathy to commuter's inconvenience is not understandable. Thousands of commuters wait along the ring road bus stops to board buses daily, but no attempt has been made to provide bus shelters in majority of the bus stands. With blazing sun and strong winds during the rainy season there cannot be worse hardship a commuter can face while waiting for Godot, i.e. for the BMTC bus. Bus shelters were promised few years back, but nothing seems to have happened till now.

Providing infrastructure does not stop at developing roads alone. The commuters' satisfaction cannot be over emphasized when it comes to an appraisal of infrastructure development.

The long-suffering commuters have time and again made a feverish appeal to the authorities to be more humane and sensitive to their grievances.

We have constantly reminded the government about this long felt need for bus shelters. It is high time the authorities make a serious effort to prioritize the building of more bus shelters in the city.
