Thousands for ISKCON Brahmotsava

Thousands of devotees from all over the country are expected to throng the ISKCON temple for the tenth Brahmotsava festival. The celebrations will be held from April 5-15 and include colorful processions every evening. The procession of the deities will be taken around in various chariots, followed by a dazzling display of fireworks.

The festival will conclude with a grand Theppotsava on April 15, when the deities Sri Lord Radha Krishna will be taken on a boat ride in the temple pond.

This year’s dance festival features performances by prominent dance troupes from Drishti Art Centre, Sanjali Centre for Odissi Dance, Mudrika Foundation and Rasika Academy of Performing Arts. A number of musicians will also perform on the occasion such as Manjula Gururaj, Parupalli Brothers, Prof TV Gopalakrishnan, Shankar Shanbhogue, KM Kusama, Surekha and Archana Udupa.

…………….

Call it the birth pangs of a modern metropolis, the cost of hi-tech development. For the next few years at least, Bangaloreans's patie nce will be put to the se verest test. Welcome to Metro Rail and Mono Rail, or rather the unavoidable pitfalls leading to the D-day when they are completed. For now, motoring around the city will be a nightmare not just during peak hours but all day along.

In a few days from now, work will begin on MG Road and Old Madras Road. According to traffic police, traffic on these roads will be diverted by April 15. The autorickshaw lane on MG Road will be barricaded for Metro works. By end-April, there will be some changes in the bus routes plying along this route. Once the work begins on MG Road, buses plying from Shivajinagar to Austin Town will be re-routed th rough S t Ma rk's Road and the buses from Ulsoor plying towards Kempegowda Bus Station and KR Market will be re-routed from MG Road to Richmond Road.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, MA Saleem clarified that there will be no shifting of bus stops to ensure minimal inconvenience. But if buses are re-routed, how can the bus stops not be shifted? Clearly, the traffic police have to do a rethink on the issue, otherwise the existing bus stops will actually mislead the public. Already, there are some instances where people wait to board the bus at bus stops where the buses do not ply any more (on CMH Road, for example).

The work for casting yard and test pile boring will begin on April 15 on MG Road, Brigade Road and Old Madras Road. Work is already progressing on CMH Road where motorists and pedestrians are put to a lot of inconvenience, with half the road not available for traffic.
BMRCL has also set into motion the process of initiating work on the Mono Rail, which will be a feeder service for Metro Rail. The corridors of Mono Rail extends from Kanakapura Road to Mysore Road, Bannerghatta National Park to Adugodi, Tumkur Road to Bellary Road and Mysore Road to Tumkur Road.
