City children participate in ‘Sightwalk Countdown 2020’ to mark World Sight Day

To celebrate World Sight Day 2010, Sankara Eye Hospital Bangalore organized a child walkathon which saw over 200 children, including a number of visually impaired, senior citizens and Rotarians helping and supporting them today.  The ‘walk’ was organized to raise public awareness on eradicating avoidable blindness, a major health concern today.  The participants took to the streets of Bangalore at 11.00 am at Lakeview Farm on Varthur Main Road and ended at 12.35 pm at the Sankara Eye Hospital premises.  Major Gen. (Dr) Anju Manchanda, President, Whitefield Export Promotion Park Industrial Association and Administrator, Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre flagged off the event.
 
Dr R V Ramani, Founder and Managing Trustee, Sankara Eye Care Institutions, stated, ‘Passionately supporting the cause in addressing the issue and providing solutions by treating preventable blindness for the last 34 years, Sankara, realizes the urgent need of creating public awareness.  With 80% of blindness being treatable and rectified, if detected early, this ‘walkathon’ plays a significant role in spreading the message across.  We thank all the organisations who supported us by participating in this event ’.
 
The event witnessed the participation from National Institute of Blind, Enable India, Rotary Club Koramangala, Info Media, Senior Citizens Bangalore, Kundalahalli Sathya Sai Sevakshetra, and Overseas Womens’ Club besides employees from Sankara Eye Hospital.
