15,000 Wiproites from 35 cities across the world run a staggering 40,000 kms

It’s that part of the year again that all Wiproites and their families have been waiting for – the Spirit of Wipro Run! Wipro organized the fifth edition of the ‘Spirit of Wipro Run’ today, an annual event with participation from employees, family and friends to celebrate its values aptly called Spirit of Wipro.

The run is being organized across 10 cities in India (Bangalore, Mysore, Greater Noida, Mumbai, Kolkata, Pune, Kochin, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Hindupur) and 25 overseas locations (including UK, US, Portugal, Australia, Philippines, Zurich, Romania, Singapore, Brazil, Dubai, Spain, Netherlands and Hungary) - a first in the run’s five year history.

The theme chosen for this year’s run is diversity – diversity in all forms including people, gender and geographies. Reflecting the theme of diversity, Wipro’s online portal ChannelW carried live update of runners registering for the run with a picture and a small description about them. This enabled the runners get to know more than just names about their fellow runners. Wipro is also promoting the theme of diversity and bonding where in the runners wrote the names of the people they are running with on the back of their t-shirts.

Commenting on the run, Mr. Anurag Behar, Chief Sustainability Officer at Wipro said, “The Spirit of Wipro Run celebrates the spirit of collaboration and camaraderie between employees across the globe. It’s a test of our self-discipline and helps us to challenge ourselves and to push beyond where we thought we could go.”

He went on to add that, “For every Wiproite who runs, we plant a tree. And we make sure that they are nurtured and well taken care off, so that it benefits the community.”

Another interesting addition to this year’s run is the promotion of ten characters that have been created especially for the run in order to engage the employees on a lighter and fun level. Promotions through the online portals, along with downloadable formats of wallpapers, posters, e-signs, etc were also done.

The Spirit of Wipro run is a fine example of a simple idea turning into reality. Started in 2006, the Spirit of Wipro Run today is amongst the most awaited events in Wipro. It is that one event that provides a profound platform for each Wiproite to get to know one another and experience camaraderie like never before.
