GreatEscapes launches Herpetology Workshop at Agumbe
A unique camp to study amphibians and reptiles in the think rainforests of Agumbe
GreatEscapes, a travel advisory firm based out of Bangalore has launched a unique workshop in association with Herpetologist Gowrishankar at Agumbe Rainforest Research Station. This 2 day camp for wildlife enthusiasts will be held in the heart of Agumbe forest in the Western Ghats during the weekends of 16th & 17th October and 30th & 31st October 2010.
This one-of-a-kind workshop will be held in the thick rainforests of Agumbe - which receive the second highest rainfall in India and is home to the elusive and mysterious King Cobra, the longest venomous snake in the world!
Participants will experience research and conservation efforts first-hand with ace Herpetologist Gowrishankar and gain first hand knowledge about a variety of amphibians and endemic species found nowhere else on the planet. They will also get a chance to experience Radio Telemetry Tracking of King Cobras, which aid behavioral studies and ongoing conservation efforts.
The base for this camp is the Agumbe Rainforest Research Station (ARRS). Other highlights of the camp include trekking through pristine forests, visiting awe-inspiring waterfalls and landscapes as well as screening of interesting documentaries about the wildlife conservation efforts in the region.
Talking about this unique experience, Herpetologist Gowrishankar, who will be leading the camp, says “This is a unique opportunity for like minded wildlife enthusiasts to explore the various facets of nature under the guidance of qualified wildlife experts. I’m happy that more youngsters and organizations are coming forward to promote this cause – and what better place than the natural haven of the Agumbe rainforests for such an experience.”
