Evoking the ills of modern life through cartoons & caricatures!

“The forte of Cartoons is that they surpass the language barrier and are the most effective medium of expressing ideas” said Dr.A. Radhakrishna Raju at the inauguration of an exhibition of the cartoons of Shri. Shyam Mohan. Earlier, he formally commenced the event by lighting the lamp. He remarked that Shyam Mohan belongs to that league of cartoonists in India who excel in successfully conveying the message through their works and that caricatures have become a part of our life and culture in present times.
The multi themed cartoon exhibition was the artist’s take on burning current issues such as Environment, Feminist movement, Corruption, Aids and Globalization. Dr. A. Radhakrishna Raju observed that the cartoons were self explanatory and recalled the work of Shri Rajendra Nath from Orissa, whose work “Jalageeta”, dealt with water crisis. The felling of every single tree has a severe impact on human life, said Dr Raju.

Welcoming the Chief Guest on the occasion V G Narendra, Managing Trustee of the Indian Institute of Cartoonists expressed his pleasure for Dr Raju having graced the occasion and said that Shri Shyam Mohan was one among the members of the National Advisory Committee of the Indian Institute of Cartoonists. He expressed his happiness over the fact that this was the 46 th Exhibition at the gallery and the Golden Jubilee Exhibition in January would be a big event with a host of dignitaries gracing the celebration including the Chief Minister. He also appraised the gathering that Indian Institute of cartoonists had honored Shri Shyam Mohan with Life time achievement award for his commendable works on cartoons

About 50 selected cartoons and comic installations of Shri Shyam Mohan are on display at the exhibition. The exhibition will be on for public till 9 th October, 2010 at The Indian Cartoon Gallery, No 1 Midford Gardens, Behind Big Kids Kemp, Off MG Road, Bangalore- 1, except on Sundays.
