College dress code "bans" dhoti
It's not just the sari that's dying a slow death. If modern colleges have their way, the ubiquitous dhoti will soon be banished to the grams. Earlier this week,, students of St Josephs College staged a protest wearing black shirts and black bands over the college's attitude to the dhoti. According to final year science degree students, three students who were dressed in dhoti on "Ethnic Day" were sent out by the college management.
However, the college authorities responded saying they were only against the unauthorized observation of Ethnic Day and not against the dhoti or any other traditional Indian attire.
The city colleges may or may not be a part of the drive against the dhoti, but how many students are really concerned about it? Though, it requires much more than a dress code ban to keep the dhoti out.
