Manipal Hospital Celebrates “World Breast feeding Week”

Manipal Hospital, an integrated hospital service system, a certified pioneer in the Indian healthcare industry for over 4 decades celebrated “World Breastfeeding Week”. World
Breastfeeding Week is from August 1st through 7th 2010. This year's theme is “Breastfeeding: Just 10 steps! The “Ten Step” theme commemorated the 20th anniversary of the Innocent Declaration developed by the World Health Organization and the United Nations
Children's Fund (UNICEF). This calls for the Baby-Friendly Ten Steps in all maternity facilities to breastfeeding.
Manipal Hospital is also displaying an impressive, educational and colourful poster exhibition on the theme of the year - “Breastfeeding-Just 10 Steps Away, the Baby Friendly Way”. The hospital is also offering 'Free Help Line Service' where you can talk to our lactation cosultant Dr. Ravneet Joshi, M.D., Pediatrics, who will help clarify myths and doubts giving necessary professional

According to Dr. Joshi, “Breastfeeding promotes overall health, growth and development for infants by preventing infections during infancy as well as asthma, obesity, diabetes and other chronic illnesses in childhood and later adulthood”.

Breastfeeding initiative. According to Mrs. Priyanka Upendra, “It is the best way an infant can obtain the nutritional and emotional resources needed during the first year of an infant's life”. She further adds, “It is wonderful that Manipal Hospital has put such an elaborate and informative display about breastfeeding, hopefully encouraging many others across India to follow suit.
