Raj Bhavan or Congress Bhavan?

Governor has crossed the Laksman Reka: Venkaiah Naidu

BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu charged that the Congress was notoriously known for misusing Raj Bhavan against elected opposition state Governments, at a press conference held at Hotel Capitol on to counter the damaging statement made by Governor of Karnataka Sri Bharadhwaj against the State BJP government. Naidu was accompanied by Sri. PC Mohan, Bangalore Central MP and Shimoga MP Sri. Aynoor.
Addressing the media at Hotel Capitol, he pointed out that there were umpteen number of examples. The moment a person takes oath and occupies the Governor post, he ceases to be a member and is barred from talking politics, he said. Naming parties, making charges, throwing allegations, making sweeping comments is not the business of a Governor. It is the job of political functionaries. But unfortunately, the present Governor of Karnataka is behaving like a Congressman, he alleged. The Congress wants to convert Raj Bhavan into Congress Bhavan and destabilize the elected Government, he said.
All the happenings in Karnataka including the Dharnas and the outbursts of the Governor both in Bangalore and in Delhi, the subsequent actions of the Governor and the reactions of the spokespersons of the All India Congress Party, are all part of larger political conspiracy of destabilizing the popularity elected BJP Government. The country is stunned over the recent utterances of the Hon’ble Governor. “How can I disown my party”, proud to be a Congressman”, “the Congress is a historic party,” “BJP leaders chose to close their eyes, I cannot close. That is the difference”, “Am I coward to say I am not a Congressman”, “I am a Congress man doing my duty”, “The Chief Minster had his own problems form the brothers who had dictated their terms to him (Chief Minster) and brought him to his knees”, “There is a jungle raj in Karnataka”, - all these statements were patently political, he said, listing the statements in detail. Can anybody with an understanding of Constitution or with a commitment to democracy support such comments and outburst of the Governor? Is it not violation of the spirit of the Constitution, he asked. Let the Congress Party react on this. The Governor has no right to air his views and grievances publicly. As one of the leading newspapers reacted, the Governor is acting like an office- bearer of the Congress party, which he is proud of, and is unable to distinguish the jurisdiction of limits of his different responsibility as a Governor and as a Congressman.
Sri Naidu summed up saying the Governor had crossed the Lakshman Rekha. He has crossed the jurisdiction limits conferred upon the Constitution. As per the Constitutional provisions and norms, a Governor has no business to publicly express his opinion against the elected State Governments where they serve. The incident in Karnataka showed the Governors are always misused by the Congress Party and they are guided by the central leadership of the party and they always look for early opportunities to destabilize elected Governments. The present Governor has come out in direct conflict with popularly elected Government and has made uncharitable and uncalled for remarks on the popularity elected Chief Minster. Let the Governor only rule the sate, why we need a Chief Minster, Ministers and MLAs, let the Governor only rule the way British did, he remarked sarcastically.
