Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled is poised on the threshold of achieving yet another milestone in its journey towards supporting and empowering the visually impaired, disabled and underprivileged. The Trust has been passionate about opening a state of the art disabled friendly residential school for its students from a long time and the foundation stone was laid earlier this week for this facility.

This building is not merely a residential facility but will be envisaged as a state of the art support center for the visually impaired, disabled and underprivileged which will enable them to build and enhance skills that will earn them a special place in society. More than a place to stay and study, this residential school will also provide nutritious food, vocational training courses, placement based rehabilitation and a lot of personal independence.

What makes the Samarthanam Disabled -friendly  Residential School distinct ?

A 100% disabled friendly school with a total built up area of more than 48,000 Sft estimated to cost 10 crores including interiors and furnishings.   Auditorium valued at 2 crores to be taken up in the next phase 
A one stop shop that will provide the very best of infrastructure, technology  and facilities to our students
A state – of – the – art facility that can operate and cater to more than 600 disabled and underprivileged students
A completely user friendly building for people with disabilities providing accessibility and flexibility in infrastructure
An integrated atmosphere for students to bond and learn
The Disabled friendly school will help our students join mainstream professions through inclusive education
A modern facility equipped with latest technology to specifically help the disabled
Special facilities include a meditation hall, recreation facilities, yoga, gymnasium, computer lab etc.
State of the art classrooms with teaching aids.
Improved physical environment - lighting and paint schemes to help the visually impaired.
Lifts and ramps to help the physically challenged.
Carpeting and acoustic tiling of classrooms.
Sign boards to help the hearing impaired.
Information provided through Braille, in large prints.
Lectures on audio tapes from eminent scholars.
Provision of Assistive Technology - Interactive keyboards, Touch screen computers,  and Interactive whiteboards.
Braille translation software etc.
All these facilities are provided free of cost to the socially disadvantaged section of society.
Objective
To promote primary and higher education of the visually impaired, disabled and underprivileged children.
To increase the educational and employment accessibility of the people with disabilities by using assistive aids/ technologies and comprehensive vocational training
To reduce malnutrition related disability through nutritional supplements

To promote and spread art, cultural and other recreational avenues for people with disabilities.
To encourage sports and games of the people with disabilities especially the visually impaired
To promote eco-friendly living and sustainable waste management practices as an innovative vocational opportunity for the disabled.

Samarthanam Trust believes that this disabled-friendly residential school will help build a society free of discrimination against the disabled, and the underprivileged and provide them with equal opportunities and an enhanced quality of life. 
Samarthanam needs generous support for building this residential school. Donations are accepted under the following categories:
