Special Parliamentary Reception for Ananth Kumar and Neeraj Patil
A Special Parliamentary Reception was hosted this weekend by Rt Hon Keith Vaz, the longest serving Asian MP in Britain to Honour Lambeth Councillor Dr Neeraj Patil who was recently elected as Mayor for the “London borough of Lambeth”.
Keith Vaz invited Mr Ananth Kumar MP to the event as a “Special Guest of Honour”. Prominent members of the Kannada Diaspora attended this important occasion.
Mr Ananth Kumar MP for South Bangalore, who also chairs the External Affairs Select Committee in the Indian Parliament, said “Keith Vaz has been a great friend of India” and thanked him for hosting the first ever gathering of Kannadigas in the House of Commons.
He also thanked him for his role as a Parliamentarian in raising the issue of human rights violations against Tamils in Sri Lanka and condemning the racial violence against Indian students in Australia recently.
Speaking about Dr Patil, he said “I am delighted that a young boy from the deprived region of Hyderabad Karnataka is today Mayor of a important district in London, this is a great honour for Karnataka and India”
He emphasised the importance of good bilateral trade relations between London and Bangalore in the IT and Biotechnology sectors.
Mr Keith Vaz expressed concern about the increasing incidence of Diabetes amongst Indians. He is founder of a charity called “SilverStar” that promotes awareness of diabetes in India. Amitabh Bachchan and Shilpa Shetty are the International Patrons of this Charity.
