Survey says…

India Will Win World Cup!

One does not know to what extent the Indian cricketers believe in themselves, but as far as the public is concerned, nine out of ten Indians believe that Dravid's team will enter the finals of the World Cup. And 53% believe that we'll see a repeat of the '83 magic and bring home the cup.

An online survey conducted by Nielsen India's research panel, Your Voice, has come up with the following interesting findings:

a) India and Australia will once again clash in the World Cup finals after 2003, but this time India will get the better of Australia.

b) The semi-finalists will be India, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.

c) Sachin Tendulkar will once again be the highest scorer and the man of the tournament.

d) Mahendra Singh Dhoni will hit the highest number of sixes.

e) Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchrist will hold the highest number of catches.

f) Ricky Ponting will be the best captain of the tournament.

Interestingly, the Indian fan is not putting his money on Australia - the preferred favorite of the world cup. Less than a quarter of the respondents are rooting for an Australian win, while only 13% expect South Africa, the Number One team in ODIs, to win.

Only a few weeks ago, the Indian team was going through a nightmarish phase, so what explains this dramatic revival of hopes in the fans' minds? According to N.S.Muthukumaran, Director, Nielson, the recent home win against the Windies has boosted the confidence in the team. Also, the consistent whispers in the media about Tendulkar being past his prime and on his last legs has had little effect on his following.

On the business side, the survey has some news to cheer the snacking industry. Sixty two per cent of respondents said they liked to munch into some crispies while watching cricket, 34% preferred to chill with some carbonated soft drinks, and 30% liked to lace it with some popcorn. Whatever the preference, cricket rules. And how.
