30-year-old mowed down by lorry

A scooterist was mowed down by a lorry driver who rammed the tripper lorry from behind, at a unmanned traffic junction near Power House Bus Stop, killing her on the stop. 30-year-old Sudha, resident of Hosakerhalli and an employee of Akarsh Constructions was on her way to her house on Wednesday, when the accident occurred. Onlookers informed the Jayanagar Traffic Police who rushed Sudha, who was profusely bleeding to the KIMS hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

Police took the lorry into custody, and are on the lookout for the absconding driver. Inspector Basanth Kumar said most heavy vehicles ply in great speed in Ring Road, and therefore scooterists and pedestrians should exercise great caution while commuting on Ring Road.

The residents of the area demanded that the police post a permanent constable to man the traffic. If there had been a constable, the accident could have been averted and a life saved, said a senior citizen. Heavy vehicles are barred from entering the city limits up to 9 pm and if a constable had been present, he could have seized the lorry and taken the driver into custody, he pointed out.
