Good cartoons cheer the mind with beautiful thoughts

Bangalore January 10, 2010: “Good cartoons cheer the mind with beautiful thoughts as cartoons bring out the beauty of life adding depth to it,” expressed Hon. Former President of India Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam beautifully about the art of cartooning at the inauguration of an exhibition of works by noted editorial cartoonist Shreyas Navare at the Indian Cartoon Gallery at MG Road here today.
Expressing delight at the inauguration of the exhibition which was aptly titled ‘The Politickle Pickle’, Dr Abdul Kalam said, “I would like to congratulate Indian Institute of Cartoonists (IIC) for organizing the exhibition of Sri Shreyas.” He made special mention about a cartoon by Shreyas titled ‘2nd Oct 2009’ depicting the return of Mahatma Gandhi on 2nd Oct 2009 and how he finds the world on his return.
As an advice to all cartoonists, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam said, “Important issues like problems with youth, social media and development of the nation should be addressed by cartoonists with the help of their cartoons. Print media should also use art and cartoons to reach out to the common men.”

Amit Kalyani, Executive Director of Kalyani Group and Director, NICE Ltd., presided over the function. Addressing the huge gathering he said, “Cartooning is not only about humour, but it is a serious business as well, with the help of which cartoonists can reach the common men. I would like to congratulate Shreyas, who has drawn such beautiful and meaningful political cartoons.”
Speaking on the occasion, Mr VG Narendra, Managing Trustee of Indian Institute of Cartoonists said “Since the establishment of IIC, we have been encouraging amateur and professional cartoonists to showcase their talents. It is an honour for the Indian Cartoon Gallery that Hon Former President of India, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has come to inaugurate the cartoon exhibition today. Sri Shreyas is a very talented cartoonist and IIC is proud to showcase his work.”
