Akkamma Devi Statue Installed at Jayanagar.

Smt Akkamma Devi Statue was installed at 44th Cross, Akkamma Devi Park, Jayanagar at a function organized by area Ex. Corporator B. Somashekar  on behalf of Bangalore Sarana Sahitya Parishiat in association with BBMP. Jayanagar MLA Sri BN Vijayakumar along with Smt. Leela Devi R. Prasad. Ex. Minister for Social Welfare Department, and president of SSP presided over the event. Area Ex. Corporators, CK Ramamurthy, N. Nagaraju, SK Natraj and Chennigiriyappa, General Secretary BJP were present.

Sri Somashekar recalled that the idea of installing the Akkamma Devi statue was broached by the former Minister Smt Leela Devi Prasad and Sri Vijaykumar had implemented it within four months. He said it was the first ever statue of Akkamma Dev in Bangalore.

On her part, Smt Leelavathi Prasad wholeheartedly thanked BNV for his prompt response, and also appreciated the relentless effort taken by Ex. Corporator Somashekar. She also thanked Sri Dubbur Siddalingappa whose dream it was to set up a a statue of Akkamma Devi.

Recalling her days when she was elected as Corporator  in the year 1957 till 1964,  she said her first ever initiative was the installation of Kittoor Rani Chennama's state then and now Akkamma Devi. She said this would definitely have a favourable impact on the electorate in the BBMP elections on the BJP. She also commended the sculptor Smt Pramadevi Deshpande from Mysore who had given a like image of Akkamma Devi.

Addressing the public BNV said that unlike the neighboring state where they were installing the statues of actors, we should have the statues of eminent people which would serve as an inspiration for the public.
