Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare brings power charged motorsport
First of its kind rally in Southern India
After hosting some of world's toughest motorsport rallies in the North and West, India's car market leader, Maruti Suzuki flagged off its maiden adventure sport rally in South India, Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare in Bangalore on 1st December
The South-bound rally, aptly called Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare, is an attempt of Maruti Suzuki to reach out to the customers and motorsport enthusiasts in the South India.
The Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare is set to test the nerve and grit of participants and prove to be an exciting event spread over 4 days and 4 legs, based on the "Time-Speed-Distance" format. After the vehicle scrutiny, the first competition leg of the rally was flagged off by Mr. Manohar Bhat, Commercial Business Head (South), Maruti Suzuki India Limited, on December 1st and took off on 2nd December from Hotel Lalit Ashok, Bengaluru.
On the occasion, Mr. Manohar Bhat said, "Maruti Suzuki has been organizing professional rallies such as Maruti Suzuki Raid-de-Himalaya and Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm for several years. The Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare will bring the motorsport experience for people in Southern parts, close to their homes, in their own territory".
The Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare will have only an Adventure Trial category. After starting from Bengaluru for the first competition leg, the rally will traverse through the hilly terrain across Hassan, Coorg, Kalpetta, Sultanbathery, Ooty, Karamadai, Satyamangalam, Kallatti Ghat, Masanagudi, Bandipur, Kanakapura to finally culminate at Bengaluru on December 5, covering a total of 1,400 kms, across 3 states - Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu in 4 days. Though the entire rally has been designed to be action packed, the Western Ghats will especially prove to be daunting as the rallyists battle the curving, narrow roads; the landscape splashed with lush green vegetation interspersed with giant boulders making a pretty picture.
It had two categories one as Professional and another as Nerves Class, with two lady participants from Bangalore.
The rally will cover an average of 350 kms per day. In the first leg, participants will cover a distance of 550 kms. The second leg will be 333 kms long while in the third leg, the distance to be covered will be 150 kms. In the final leg, the participants will drive for 350 kms and return to Bengaluru. The winners of the rally will be felicitated on December 5 in a prize distribution ceremony at Hotel Lalit Ashok, Bengaluru. With the cash prize of Rs. 5 lakhs.
Those participating in the Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare include top rallyists Sanjay Agarwal, Girija Shanker Joshy and current 1600cc category National Champion, Sujay and two all women teams from Bengaluru. Besides teams from Bengaluru, the Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare will see participation from Kerala, Coimbatore, Goa and Hyderabad.
